[SPORT NEWS]Pep Guardiola ready to snap up Man United target as Premier League title charge stalls

Spanish news outlet El Confidencial claim Pep Guardiola views the Croatian as the ideal replacement for crocked Ilkay Gundogan.

Guardiola might be tempted to strengthen his squad this month after City's title charge has hit the buffers.

The Premier League heavyweights slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Everton yesterday to leave them ten points adrift of pace-setters Chelsea.
But Guardiola could face a battle to sign the experienced campaigner.

City's arch-rivals, Manchester United, have also been linked with the Barca ace.

The Sun had suggested the Red Devils were planning an audacious bid for 28-year-old as Jose Mourinho looks to source reinforcements.

The midfielder’s contract in Catalonia is set to expire in 2019 but discussions over a new deal are said to be already taking place.

Barca boss Luis Enrique left Rakitic out of his starting XI last weekend.

But Enrique insisted the decision had nothing to do with the playmaker's future.

"It's up to me to decide the squads and the teams,” he said. “That's my job.

"What's been published has nothing to do with that.“Only 25 per cent of things are true, be it in the Croatian, Spanish, England, Italian media."
