[SPORT NEWS]Three Manchester United players who should start vs St Etienne in the Europa League this week

Manchester United are back in European action this week.

After booking their place in the knock-out rounds of the Europa League before Christmas, Jose Mourinho's team face St Etienne over two legs in the last 32.

It is the start of a busy run of fixtures with games in four competitions before the end of February.

Here's a look at three players who should start against St Etienne at Old Trafford on Thursday as Mourinho looks to juggle his squad.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial hasn’t always been rewarded after scoring goals.

He scored against Middlesbrough on New Year’s Eve and was then dropped to the bench against West Ham.

He scored against Reading in the FA Cup but was on the bench for the following game against Hull.

After two games on the sidelines, he was on target again against Watford on Saturday. This time, though, he should keep his place.

The Frenchman scored one and made one against Watford. He deserves to stay in on form alone. It wouldn’t do his confidence any harm, either.
Luke Shaw

There is nothing more demoralising for a player to train all week only to be left out when it’s time to play a game. It is something Luke Shaw has had to deal with since returning from a groin injury.

Jose Mourinho says the left-back has to ‘work and wait’.

In fairness to the United manager, he sees more than anyone else. And if he isn’t picking the 21-year-old, it is safe to assume he has got good reason.
But Mourinho hasn’t usually allowed first-teamers to play for the Under-23s, even when they have been out of the team.

And after one start in more than two months, Shaw could do with a game.
Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney returned to the squad after illness for the game against Watford on Saturday but was left on the bench as United won 2-0.
The 31-year-old has only started three games in the last two months. And St Etienne’s visit to Old Trafford could offer an opportunity for Mourinho to rest Zlatan Ibrahimovic and start with Rooney – especially with the second leg to come next week.

Mourinho will need his whole squad with four competitions still to play for in the second half of the season. And there is an argument that he has to keep Rooney ticking over to get the most out of him.
