Teenager arraigned for defiling minor

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has remanded a teenager, Daniel Ettah, and his alleged accomplice, George Nkpanam, in prison following their arraignment for defiling a seven-year-old girl. Ettah, 18, was arraigned on Wednesday alongside Nkpanam, 28, on a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse contrary to Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The duo, whose residential addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charges before Magistrate O. A. Ogunbowale Prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Ajaga Agboko, said the defendants committed the offence at different times and locations. He said between January and March, at White Sand School area, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Ettah indecently dealt with the girl (name withheld). Agboko said Ettah had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl. The prosecutor also told the court that on April 9, at about 10:00 p.m. in the same area, Nkpanam indecently assaulted the same girl by having unlawful carnal knowledge of her. Following their plea, Magistrate Ogunbowale granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. She said one of the sureties must be a relation of one defendant and while the other must be a property owner in Lagos State. She also remanded the defendants in prison and ordered the prosecutor to send a copy of the case file to the Director for Public Prosecutions for legal advice. The case was adjourned till May 25.
