Four docked for burglary, theft


Four men who allegedly broke into an apartment and carted valuables worth N10 million, were on Wednesday arraigned in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendants – Pascal Hounkpe, 25; Peter Agbo, 26; Alex Daniel, 28, and Femi Whedanou, 21, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, break-in and stealing.

All the defendants denied committing the offences. The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 21 at No. 48a, Adekunle Fajuyi Way, GRA, Ikeja.

He said that the accused persons broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mrs Akinpelu-Ali, and stole money, jewellery and clothes.

The prosecutor listed the items as: 3,000 dollars, gold jewellery, nine pieces of gold wristwatches, 150 Ghana cedi, 1500 CFA, perfumes and fabrics, all valued at N10 million.

The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 287, 310 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned until May 24 for further hearing.
