‘We have had no offers’– Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare expects Kasper Schmeichel to stay despite Manchester United links

The 30-year-old has recently been linked with a stunning move to take his father Peter’s old number at Old Trafford.

It is claimed Jose Mourinho has indicated Schmeichel as a potential target if current number one David de Gea leaves to join hometown club Real Madrid during the upcoming transfer window.

Those reports gained traction in recent weeks after Schmeichel changed agents - swapping long-term representative Kenny Shepherd for Italian Luca Bascherini - the man behind Nani and Patrice Evra's moves to Old Trafford and someone who still has strong ties to United.

However, Foxes boss Shakespeare has revealed the club have not yet received any offers for the glovesman, who he insists is happy to stay at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Watford, asked if he expects Schmeichel to still be at the club next season, Shakespeare said: “I do.

“He’s in the form of his life. He’s entitled to change his agent. He has been very professional.

“I don’t feel the need [to talk to him]. I have no problem with players wanting to progress.

“Ultimately I think Kasper’s happy here. We have had no offers.”
